What Landfall covers across the UK, in more detail

Which figures depend on each person’s nation, a couple in two nations, and where the nation makes no difference.

“Lives in” is set for each person, so a couple can live in two nations, each taxed on their own nation’s bands. The Tax tab’s return names the nation it used, and a plan that never set one is read as England.

  • Scotland’s own bands apply to earnings, pensions and guaranteed income only. Interest and dividends are stacked on top at the UK rates, and capital gains meet the UK bands for every nation.
  • Wales uses the UK bands unless its rates move away from them. The rules Landfall holds today give Wales the same bands as England and Northern Ireland.
  • The band tables can be edited under the plan’s assumptions, the Scottish and Welsh ones included when the plan holds them.

The care assessment reads the nation of the person in care. Where Landfall holds no care figures for that nation, England’s stand in, and a warning names the threshold used.

The home’s nation is set under “Your home”, and starts as the first person’s. It sets the home’s growth assumption until you give the home a rate of its own.

The State Pension and the age it starts are the same in every nation, and so is the allowance for tax-free cash.

The plan takes the nation chosen under “Lives in” as given. Whether you count as a Scottish or Welsh taxpayer is decided by rules the plan does not test, and HMRC or a regulated adviser can confirm it.
