What Landfall covers across the UK
Four nations, each with its own income tax and its own care rules, and where the coverage stops.
Each person in a plan lives in one of the four nations: England, Northern Ireland, Scotland or Wales. Edit plan sets it for each of you, under “Lives in”, and it holds for the whole plan. Which figures the nation changes, in more detail.
- Income tax on earnings, pensions and the State Pension uses that nation’s bands. Scotland sets its own, and Wales may set its own. Interest and dividends are taxed the same way across the UK.
- National Insurance, capital gains tax and inheritance tax are UK-wide, so they do not change with the nation.
- Care follows that nation’s own financial assessment: its savings limits, the allowance a resident keeps, and what the state pays before anyone is assessed. Scotland pays towards personal care, and all four nations pay towards nursing care in a nursing home.
- The home grows at the assumption for the nation it stands in, which you can change.
Some things stay outside the model: care at home, and a move from one nation to another partway through a plan. The tax on buying a home is charged by the nation the next home stands in.
Every one of these rules is held for each nation separately, with its own source and the date it was read.
