No. Landfall shows you what your figures imply. It does not give financial advice or tell you what to do with them. MoneyHelper, which is government-backed and free, covers pensions, savings and debt. Pension Wise, part of the same service, offers a free appointment about defined contribution pension options. For a recommendation about your own circumstances you need a regulated financial adviser. ### Who is Landfall for? Landfall suits a UK household of one or two adults with pensions, savings or investments and a rough idea of what they want to spend. Most people who find it useful are somewhere between building a plan and checking one they already have. ### What does Landfall cost? Making a plan and reading its projection cost nothing, and the projection is the whole engine on both tiers. Landfall + is a yearly subscription for more plans and the tools for testing them. The price is shown in the app, in your own currency, before you subscribe. ### Where do my plans live? On the device you made them on. Nothing is sent to a server, and there is no account to make. With [Landfall +](https://landfall.money/plus), your plans follow you through your own iCloud Drive, or OneDrive on Windows, and only when you switch it on. ### Does it cover Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland? Yes. Each person in a plan lives in one of the four nations: England, Northern Ireland, Scotland or Wales. Edit plan sets it for each of you, under “Lives in”, and it holds for the whole plan. [Which figures the nation changes, in more detail](https://landfall.money/help/what-landfall-covers-across-the-uk-in-more-detail). Income tax on earnings and pensions uses that nation’s own bands, and care follows that nation’s own financial assessment. ### Can we plan as a couple? Yes. It is built for one household of one or two adults planning for themselves. There is no third person and no adviser view. Each of you has your own earnings, pots, State Pension and year of stopping work. ### Where do the tax figures come from? Each tax rate, threshold and allowance is a dated record naming the page or the Act it came from. Your plan shows that trail beneath its verdict. Where a figure is an estimate rather than a rule — typical fund charges, or what a care home costs — it is labelled an estimate and carries the date its sources were read. Anything we cannot source properly is recorded as a gap rather than filled in from memory. ### How accurate is it? Growth is applied exactly as the plan sets it, every year, with no good years and no bad ones. That is deliberate. It is what makes two plans comparable, because the only thing that differs between them is the thing you changed. Markets do not behave that way, which is what [the stress test](https://landfall.money/help/the-stress-test) is for. ### What happens if I stop paying for Landfall +? Stop paying and nothing is taken away. Every plan still opens, projects and exports, and a lock you turned on stays on. On the free tier the active plan is the one you can edit. ### Who makes Landfall? RMPF Consulting Ltd, a company registered in Northern Ireland. Landfall began as one household’s own retirement plan. The tools we tried either hid their working or kept the plan on somebody else’s server. Questions, defects and ideas all go to support@landfall.money. ## Guides Short answers to what people ask most, with the figures for this tax year and where each one comes from. ### How much a retirement needs What a retirement costs and how long it may last, what people have saved by each age and how the State Pension rises. - [How much do I need to retire? The Retirement Living Standards](https://landfall.money/guides/retirement-living-standards): The Retirement Living Standards put a yearly cost on three levels of living in retirement: minimum, moderate and comfortable. Pensions UK publishes them, most recently on 3 June 2026. - [How likely am I to reach 80, 90 or 100?](https://landfall.money/guides/how-likely-to-reach-old-age): Life expectancy is an average, and many people live well past it. A plan that has to last a lifetime turns on a different question: how likely it is that someone reaches a given age. - [What is the average pension pot by age in Great Britain?](https://landfall.money/guides/pension-pots-by-age): The Office for National Statistics measures what people in Great Britain hold in their pensions. Its latest figures, for April 2020 to March 2022, are below for each age group. - [How much is the State Pension?](https://landfall.money/guides/how-much-is-the-state-pension): The full new State Pension is £241.30 a week in 2026/27, £12,548 a year. What a person gets depends on their National Insurance record. - [What is the State Pension triple lock, and what changes in April 2030?](https://landfall.money/guides/the-state-pension-triple-lock): The triple lock is the rule the government uses to raise the State Pension each April. It has announced a change from April 2030, which is not yet law. ### Reducing costs in retirement The costs that carry on after work stops, and what spending on solar panels now does to the bills later. - [What costs carry on after you stop earning?](https://landfall.money/guides/ten-long-term-costs): Some costs end when you stop paying. Others carry on after you stop earning, rise on terms set by someone else, or are hard to leave. This guide describes ten of them, how each works and what the rules say about it. - [How long do home solar panels take to pay for themselves?](https://landfall.money/guides/how-long-solar-panels-take-to-pay-for-themselves): Solar panels cost money now and lower electricity bills for years after. On the government’s published figures, a typical system pays for itself in about 13 years, though the answer turns on prices no one can know in advance. ### Tax on pensions and savings How a pension is taxed when drawn, taken as cash or passed on, how gifts count for inheritance tax, and how an ISA compares. - [How is pension income taxed in each UK nation?](https://landfall.money/guides/tax-on-pension-income-across-the-uk): A pension is taxed as income, at the rates of the nation you live in. Scotland sets its own bands, and Wales, England and Northern Ireland share one set. - [How much of a pension can you take as a tax-free lump sum?](https://landfall.money/guides/tax-free-cash-from-a-pension): Up to 25% of a pension can usually be taken free of income tax, and the rest is taxed as income when it is drawn. The most anyone can take tax-free, across all their pensions, is £268,275: the lump sum allowance. - [Do pensions pay inheritance tax? What changes in April 2027](https://landfall.money/guides/pensions-and-inheritance-tax): From 6 April 2027, most pension money left unspent at death will count towards the estate for inheritance tax. Until then, most of it is left outside. - [How much can you give away free of inheritance tax?](https://landfall.money/guides/passing-on-wealth-from-a-well-funded-pension): The UK lets you give money away during your lifetime in two ways. Some gifts are free of inheritance tax straight away. Others become fully free of it only if the giver lives for seven years after making them. - [Pension or ISA: what does each do with the same pound?](https://landfall.money/guides/pension-or-isa): A pension and an ISA both keep tax away from your savings, in opposite ways. Money goes into a pension before tax and is taxed when it comes out. Money goes into an ISA after tax and is not taxed again. Other rules make the two unequal, and this page sets them out as they stand today. ### How investments grow What compounding does over decades, what a workplace pension holds, and what the evidence says about trading often, timing the market and crypto. - [What is compounding, and what does it do over time?](https://landfall.money/guides/the-power-of-compounding): Compounding is growth earned on earlier growth. Three short examples show what it does over time, against a borrower, and once prices rise. - [What is your workplace pension invested in?](https://landfall.money/guides/what-your-workplace-pension-is-invested-in): Being enrolled at work put your contributions into a fund you may never have looked at. This guide says what there is to find out about it, including the path it was set on, and where each fact is written. - [What does frequent trading cost, even in low-cost funds?](https://landfall.money/guides/what-frequent-trading-costs): Every buy and sell costs something, even when a fund’s yearly charge is low. That charge covers running the fund, not getting in and out of it. This page sets out each cost of a trade, who takes it, and what they can add up to. - [Why is timing the market so hard?](https://landfall.money/guides/timing-the-market): Timing the market asks for two right decisions, not one. The first is when to sell. The second is when to buy back. Getting the second one wrong can leave an investor behind someone who did nothing, even when the crash they expected arrives. - [Why isn’t crypto treated as a core retirement asset?](https://landfall.money/guides/crypto-as-a-retirement-asset): Crypto has produced very large gains and very large losses. Its price record is short, its link to shares has changed more than once, and direct holdings mostly sit outside the protections that cover mainstream UK investments. Those three facts are why UK regulators describe it as high risk and speculative rather than as a core asset class. This page sets out the evidence as it stands, for a UK reader. ### Seeking advice and help What a financial adviser asks before advising, and how someone can manage money for a partner who no longer can. - [What will a financial adviser ask you before advising on retirement?](https://landfall.money/guides/what-a-financial-adviser-will-ask): A regulated adviser cannot recommend anything until they understand three things. Those are what you know about investing, your financial situation, and what you want the money to do. The regulator’s rules require it, and most of a first meeting is spent on it. - [Where do you start planning for retirement?](https://landfall.money/guides/a-retirement-plan-in-layers): Planning for retirement does not have to happen all at once. - [Who can manage a partner’s money when they no longer can?](https://landfall.money/guides/power-of-attorney-for-a-partner): A power of attorney lets one person act for another with banks, pension providers and others. Only some kinds keep working once the person who made it can no longer decide for themselves. ## Free The whole projection, one plan, on this device. - Every projection, every rule, every tax year - The timeline, the charts, the year by year and the tax - Export as a file, a table or a PDF report - Sample households to explore before you have figures of your own ## Landfall + For what comes after the first answer. The tools we tried either hid their working or kept the plan on somebody else’s server. So we built a planner that shows where every figure came from and keeps the plan on your own device. Then we made it an app. Plan illustrations may contain errors. They are not a forecast or regulated financial advice. RMPF Consulting Ltd. Registered in Northern Ireland, company number NI727300.
