Writing down your intentions

What you would do if markets fell, in your own words, written while all is calm.

A plan tells you what the numbers do. It cannot tell you what you would do about them. Intentions is where you write that down, in your own words, while nothing is going wrong. Each sample plan comes with a record already written, so you can see what one looks like.

  1. Open Intentions and choose the plan the words are for.
  2. Answer the questions. Any can be left blank.
  3. Save. The plan’s figures as they stand are kept with what you wrote.

The questions ask when you will draw on the money, what it is for, and how you intend to respond to a large fall. One of them is a promise, for a fall of a size you choose. They go on to spending, temptation, what would change your mind and what you would do before acting. They end with a note from the calm author of the plan to its frightened reader.

The record keeps every version, newest first, each dated and word for word. Beneath each is what the plan assumed when it was written, so you can see what you were looking at then.

Landfall never scores what you wrote, never summarises it and never suggests an answer. The Stress test page offers your intentions back to you, beside the downside it draws.

Download PDF on the web and the desktop app, or Share PDF on the iPhone and iPad, makes a report to keep with your papers: your intentions first, then the plan at a glance, its charts and its tables.
