How your State Pension rises

One assumption sets how the State Pension grows each year, and you can change it to try a different rule.

Every year of the plan raises your State Pension by “State Pension uprating”, one percentage applied from the first year to the last. In today’s money the pension grows when that figure is above inflation and shrinks when it is below.

At the time of writing, in October 2026, the government has announced a change to how the State Pension rises from April 2030. The change is not yet law.

Each year the State Pension would then rise by the highest of inflation, 2.5% and the rise needed to keep its value in line with earnings, rather than by earnings growth itself.

Landfall follows the rules that are law today, and its model changes only when a new rule is enacted. Until then, how the pension rises in your plan is an assumption you can set.

  1. Open Edit plan and choose “Economy, tax and care assumptions”.
  2. Set “State Pension uprating” to the yearly rise you want to try. A figure equal to inflation holds the pension level in today’s money.
  3. Read the result on the plan’s pages. To keep the present figure as well, try the new one in a plan of its own and set the two side by side under Compare.

Any figure here is an assumption about future policy, not a forecast. “Where these figures come from”, in the same panel, says what the default rests on. What to assume is your judgement, and an adviser can help you weigh it.
